In today's rapidly evolving Web3 landscape, security is more critical than ever. In this interview, we sit down with Krishna Sriram, Co-Founder of Zircuit, a cutting-edge Layer 2 network built on zk-rollup technology with AI-enabled security at the sequencer level.

Zircuit's innovative approach introduces a new standard in on-chain protection, using AI to fend off malicious actors and smart contract exploits, safeguarding both users and developers.

As Zircuit continues to grow, Krishna shares insights into how the project has faced and tackled security challenges, the rising threat of phishing and impersonation, and how partnering with platforms like ChainPatrol has been crucial in protecting their community.

Join us as we dive into the future of Web3 security with Krishna and explore how Zircuit is leading the charge in creating a safer and more trustworthy decentralized ecosystem.

🛡 ChainPatrol:

When and how did the Zircuit team come to realize that the organization was being targeted by online threats, like phishing and impersonation?

🎙️ Krishna Sriram:

We became aware of the threats targeting Zircuit when our social media accounts started to rapidly grow. In the fall of 2023, we experienced fast growth on our social channels, reaching six-figure follower counts. With this growth of our public profile, we began noticing more phishing and impersonation attempts. The scale of these attacks increased along with the growth of our community. It became clear pretty quickly that we needed to mitigate these threats to keep our community safe.

🛡 ChainPatrol:

What are the main ways that these threats impact your business, and what type of threat is uniquely problematic for you?

🎙️ Krishna Sriram:

As a Web3-native, tokenized project, Zircuit is a prime target for impersonators who create fake websites. They use our branding to deceive users with fraudulent token links, fake airdrop sites, and other phishing schemes. Users recognize our branding on these fake sites, which primes them to trust them. It can be tough to notice the subtle signs that a brand pretending to be Zircuit isn’t actually us – for example, the URL of the fake website may be off by just a few characters.

🛡 ChainPatrol:

How does leveraging a platform like ChainPatrol contribute positively to the overall reputation of Zircuit for users and the Web3 ecosystem?

🎙️ Krishna Sriram:

ChainPatrol helps us to stay ahead of the threats that could harm our users, and by proxy, that protects our brand and reputation. We want our community to know we are looking out for them, and by leveraging ChainPatrol to monitor our channels for threats, we are able to do that. This enhances trust in Zircuit by effectively mitigating risks and preventing incidents that could leave our users with a negative feeling about us.

🛡 ChainPatrol:

As your organization scales, are you finding that threats grow as well? How are your protection needs evolving? How do you expect they may evolve in the future?

🎙️ Krishna Sriram:

As a Web3 organization grows and the overall space evolves, the threats it faces tend to increase linearly. While it's difficult to predict exactly how these threats will develop in the future, organizations will inevitably need to invest more resources in security.

A useful analogy is the significant investment traditional financial institutions make in cybersecurity, anti-fraud measures, and other aspects of security and trust. At scale, the resources dedicated to these efforts become immense because threats are constantly evolving and uniquely complex.

This challenge will be further amplified by AI, which enables hackers and phishers to do more with fewer resources, such as creating identical front-ends rapidly. Fortunately, AI can also be leveraged to monitor and respond to threats more effectively, and AI-enabled security tools are advancing quickly. Zircuit, for instance, utilizes AI-powered security features to prevent on-chain attacks.

🛡 ChainPatrol:

How has your experience with ChainPatrol been so far?

🎙️ Krishna Sriram:

Attacks occur around the clock, and from our experience as security veterans, hackers, and phishers are always active. It's crucial to maintain a 24/7 security mindset rather than treating it as something to check on periodically.

Your team has provided this crucial around-the-clock coverage, and you’ve been super responsive, which is important in this space. The quick turnaround time for handling scam URLs has been helpful, and your reliability has been consistent. Overall, you’ve been a solid partner in addressing these issues efficiently.

🛡 ChainPatrol:

Can you describe how ChainPatrol fits as an extension to your security team?

🎙️ Krishna Sriram:

As a security-first project, our team primarily focuses on mitigating threats on-chain and to our front-end. Chainpatrol helps automate the management of external threats—those that are beyond our direct control or immediate response capabilities. This makes ChainPatrol an excellent complement to our security team.

🛡 ChainPatrol:

Security in the Web3 space is a major barrier of entry – People are fearful of crypto hacks, scams, and other vulnerabilities. How is Zircuit supporting the growth of a secure Web3 space that helps shift perceptions about safety in Web3?

🎙️ Krishna Sriram:

Zircuit is a new L2 network that introduces a novel approach to on-chain security. Users are protected by sequencer-level security and built-in, automated AI techniques that guard against smart contract exploits and malicious actors.

Web3 application developers benefit greatly from Zircuit’s sequencer-level security, which provides a line of defense against hacks and increases trust in their applications.

Instead of relying solely on developers and audits for security, Zircuit adds a layer of security at the network level by preventing exploits and other malicious transactions from being executed on the network. This approach enhances security for both developers and users and helps build greater overall trust in the space.
